OUYA – Android Gaming Console
Started on Kickstarter, this is an Android gaming console.
$99 is a reasonable price for the unit but I don’t think it will be a run away success right off the bat. I hope they have staying power because the very existence of the console will make developers more inclined to make more console like games on the Android platform. That in turn will be better for the entire phone / tablet ecosphere.
Games like GTA, Mass Effect, Shadowgun, Nova, Trial Xtreme etc would be super fun on a console. However the stipulation of developing for the Ouya is the game has to be free [full free / demo /freemium], that might limit what games are available. It may also make for a very annoying land of demos and really expensive in game purchases.
The developer version ships Dec 28th. It will be released to the general public March 2013? Due to the speed of development in the android and mobile platforms i can see a Ouya 2 soon on the horizon.
